The Super Visa allows parents and grandparents to visit their children or grandchildren in Canada for extended stays of up to five years at a time. It is a multiple-entry visa, valid for up to ten years.
Super Visa holders can apply for a visitor record to extend their stay by up to an additional two years while in Canada, allowing for a potential total stay of up to seven years. The Super Visa does not grant or leads to permanent residence.
As a super visa holder, you should have a valid health insurance policy for your entire stay in Canada.
PGP is a program where Canadian citizens and permanent residents can sponsor their parents and grandparents, biological or adopted, to move to Canada permanently. If approved, the parents and grandparents become permanent residents and eventually be able to apply for Canadian citizenship. IRCC randomly selects a number of sponsors from the pool of applicants who submitted an ‘Interest to Sponsor’ in the previous years.
